    Insurance

Deregulation and a greater range of insurance solutions, not least provided by foreign players, have made it more difficult to correlate the cover needed with cover actually bought. The terms and conditions of insurance policies are complex and Anglo-Saxon influences in Swedish insurance contracts have become increasingly common. This has led to disputes over interpretation. Shortcomings in insurance cover are not often evident until a loss occurs and then it may be too late rectify matters without resorting to legal action.

The regulatory framework under which companies operate today is somewhat unclear and outdated. It is currently undergoing review and a new bill on insurance business is expected.

Adapting the insurance sector to the EU is an ongoing process and has resulted in, inter alia, a new act on insurance intermediation (2005). Re-insurance has also been regulated based on an EU-directive (2008).
