    EU & competition

Wistrand is one of Sweden's leading law firms in these areas and is top-ranked by most international ranking institutions. Wistrand has acted as counsel in the largest lawsuits in the field: the petrol and asphalt cartel; the gaming and alcohol monopolies; the rush hour tax case; and the RAKEL ("Radio Communication for Effective Leadership") procurement.

EU law and competition law have become a central part of both national and international business law. Violating the law in these areas may lead not only to considerable damages but also to a serious blow to the good reputation of the companies and the authorities involved. Preventive measures are therefore of the utmost importance, particularly in competition law.

Decisions on cooperation, mergers, the sale and/or purchase of products and services must often be preceded by a thorough analysis of competition law - something which frequently needs to be done by experts. Wistrand can offer valuable and cost-effective advice on a variety of competition law issues. Wistrand assisted in the majority of large cartel and procurement cases in Sweden. It represents a number of companies in their dealings with the Swedish Competition Authority and the European Commission. Wistrand has valuable experience of filing notifications of acquisitions to the Swedish Competition Authority and the European Commission and of lawsuits in the ECJ in Luxembourg. Wistrand also has a great deal of experience of counselling in dawn raids, in which the Swedish Competition Authority and/or the European Commission inspect the premises of companies suspected of violating competition rules. Wistrand has set up working groups and routines to enable us to be on the premises at short notice.

As part of our work in competition law, Wistrand provides a number of clients with regular training of their employees. In particular, we develop compliance programmes in the area of competition law.
